ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team won its third straight match on Friday night, sweeping visiting William Jewell 25-18, 25-22, 25-20 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Senior
Erin Walker had 21 digs, while senior
Lindsay Meyer recorded 16 assists and 11 digs as UMSL improves to 11-12 overall, including 5-5 in the GLVC. William Jewell slips to 7-16 and 1-9 in the league.
The Tritons hit .156, but limited the Cardinals to .053 hitting with junior
Lexi Rogers recording four blocks. William Jewell also had nine service errors in the contest.
Offensively, sophomore
Gina Pezze tallied 10 kills, while senior
Jessica Ploss finished with seven, hitting .462. Senior
Carly Ochs added six kills off the bench, playing in the final two sets.
Pezze recorded five of her kills in the opening frame, while in the second set, the Tritons held William Jewell to -.021 hitting as UMSL led from start to finish.
The third set featured nine ties and six lead changes. A service error by the Cardinals tied the game at 15-15 and UMSL got two service aces from Pezze for a 17-15 lead the Tritons would not relinquish.
The Tritons return to the court tomorrow, hosting No. 9 Rockhurst at 3 p.m.
