Volleyball Struggles Offensively in 3-0 Loss at Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team struggled offensively, hitting just .063 in a 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 loss at Truman State on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
 
The Tritons fall to 7-11 overall and 3-5 in the GLVC, while Truman State, which hit .250, improves to 10-6 and 5-3 in the league.
 
For UMSL, sophomore Gina Pezze had eight kills and 11 digs, while seniors Jessica Ploss and Hannah Miller recorded seven kills each.
 
The Tritons tallied just seven kills in the first set, hitting -.083, while Truman put down 13 kills behind a .367 attack percentage.
 
In the middle frame, UMSL saw Truman State use a pair of late runs in the second set, including one that erased one of its own runs. The Bulldogs reeled off five straight for a 17-13 lead before UMSL clawed back for a 20-19 lead on a block from Ploss and junior Kara Roggemann. However, Truman scored three straight to close out the set with a 6-3 run. The Tritons had 12 kills in the set, but committed 11 errors.
 
The Bulldogs then scored six unanswered in the third set to pull away from a 15-15 tie en route to the win.
 
Senior Lindsay Meyer recorded 17 assists and 11 digs, while senior Erin Walker led the back row with 18 digs.
 
UMSL returns to action tomorrow at Quincy in a 4 p.m. GLVC match.
