Softball Wins Two on Opening Day at NFCA DII Lead Off Classic

TUCSON, ARIZ. – The No. 13 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team opened the 2015 campaign on Friday with a pair of wins in the NFCA Division II Lead Off Classic.
 
The Tritons rallied from a 5-2 deficit to defeat Texas Women's, 6-5, before shutting out Regis, 4-0. UMSL is back on the field tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Fort Lewis.
 
UMSL 6, Texas Women's 5
Freshman Jennah Perryman drove in the winning run with a squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh inning. Perryman also had a solo homerun in the fifth inning that pulled UMSL within 5-4, while senior Brianna Butler knotted the score at 5-5 with a one out homerun in the bottom of the seventh. It was the 33rd career homerun for Butler, the program's career leader in that category.
 
Senior Madison Zbaraschuk reached base in all four plate appearances, while senior Katie Wood and sophomore Ryan Logan both reached in three of four. Senior Jena Boudreau scored two runs.
 
UMSL tallied eight hits to Texas Women's seven.
 
UMSL 4, Regis 0
The Tritons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and added an insurance run in the third. Butler reached base in three of four plate appearances, while sophomore Alex Stupek scored two runs.
 
Junior Hannah Perryman and senior Brittni Chapman combined for the shutout with Perryman collecting the win and Chapman garnering the save.
