Softball Splits GLVC Doubleheader at Lewis, Winning Nightcap, 5-3

ROMEOVILLE, ILL. – The No. 4 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team opened a 10-game roadswing at Lewis on Saturday by splitting a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader. Both contests finished with a 5-3 score with game one going to the host Flyers and the nightcap to the Tritons.

UMSL moves to 19-3 overall and is now 4-2 in GLVC play, while Lewis moves to 12-9 and 3-3 in the league.

The Tritons are at Wisconsin-Parkside tomorrow in a 12 p.m. GLVC doubleheader.

GAME 1: Lewis 5, UMSL 3
The Flyers won the game with a walk off two run homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Tritons may have been their own worst enemy, leaving 12 runners on base throughout the game, including bases loaded in three different innings.

Junior Hannah Perryman suffered the loss, her first in her last 12 outings, allowing all five runs after three straight shutouts. She scattered six hits, while striking out 15.

UMSL also finished with six hits, but was issued seven walks. Sophomore Alex Stupek recorded two of those hits for the Tritons.

Freshman Jennah Perryman broke a scoreless game in the fourth inning with two-out RBI double, but Lewis countered in the bottom half with a two-out single before taking a 3-1 lead in the sixth on a two-run homerun.

In the seventh, UMSL took advantage of two walks to load the bases with senior Hannah Wessels at the plate, who drove in two runs with a single to knot the score at 3-3.

Game 2: UMSL 5, Lewis 3
The Tritons scored four runs in the seventh to garner the come-from-behind victory. Senior Katie Wood drove in the game-winning runs on her two-out, two-run single. Wessels' solo homerun pulled the Tritons within 3-2 to lead off the inning, while UMSL took advantage of a Flyers error to score the tying run.

Both teams recorded seven hits with J. Perryman going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Wood also finished with two hits.

J. Perryman used a solo homerun in the top of the fourth for the 1-0 lead, while Lewis plated three runs in the fifth for a 3-1 lead.

Senior Brittni Chapman improved to 10-1 in the circle with the complete game victory, scattering seven hits and allowing three runs, while striking out four.
