ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team opened the home portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Truman State in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons improve to 2-2 overall, including 1-1 in the GLVC, while Truman State slips to 1-3 and 1-1 in the league.
Sophomore
Nick Werner and junior
Clay Stocker accounted for UMSL's goals. Werner put the Tritons on the board in the 26
th minute, firing a shot from nearly 25 yards out off a cross from junior
Leonardo Rodrigues Sanchez, while Stocker headed in the goal off junior
DJ Bednar's corner kick in the 62
nd minute. Stocker, in his third season as a starter on defense, notched his first collegiate goal with the tally.
UMSL outshot the Bulldogs, 12-7, while junior keeper
Jack Filla recorded five saves in posting his second shutout of the year.
Senior
Tyler Collico took three shots, placing two on goal, while fellow senior
Jon Huelsman also fired three shots. The Tritons had six shots on goal and finished with seven corner kicks to Truman State's two.
UMSL continues its current three-game homestand on Friday, hosting Saint Joseph's at 7:30 p.m.
