SAN FANCISCO, CALIF. – Senior
Jon Huelsman scored twice in a 25-second span on Sunday afternoon to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to its first win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Humboldt State.
All three goals came in the first half for the Tritons, which improve to 1-1 overall.
Senior
Tyler Collico put UMSL on the board in the 24
th minute, scoring from 18 yards out off the pass from sophomore
Nick Werner before Huelsman followed with two goals. He converted a penalty kick at the 31:48 mark before netting his second goal 10 yards out at the 32:13 mark.
The goals for Huelsman and Collico put both players in the program's career top 25 scorers. Huelsman moved into 22
nd place with 43 points (18 goals, 7 assists), while Collico moved into a tie for 25
th place with 40 points (16 goals, 8 assists).
The Lumberjacks (0-2) outshot the Tritons, 14-10, but UMSL placed five shots on goal to Humboldt State's four.
Werner took four shots with two landing on target, while Huelsman put two of his three shots on goal.
Junior
Jack Filla played all 90 minutes in goal, facing 14 shots and registering four saves.
UMSL returns to action on Friday, traveling to Quincy for the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener. The Tritons are then home a week from today on Sunday, hosting Truman State at 2:30 p.m. in their home opener.
