Tritons Sunk by Rangers' Second Half Rally

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Visiting Wisconsin-Parkside outscored the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team, 39-26, in the second half en route to a 70-66 win over the Tritons on Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The Tritons owned a 40-31 halftime lead, but saw it erased with a 19-6 Rangers run midway through the second half that gave the guests a 56-52 lead with 7:29 remaining. UMSL suffered a nearly five minute scoring drought during that stretch before senior Brandon Marquardt ended it at the 6:01 mark. Redshirt freshman Joshua Webster followed with a bucket of his own to knot the score at 56-56.

Another Webster basket with 2:34 to play gave UMSL a 64-62 lead, but the Rangers followed with a traditional three-point play for a 65-64 lead they would not relinquish and made 3-of-4 at the free throw line in the final 20 seconds to help seal the win.

UMSL slips to 6-9 overall, including 0-6 in the GLVC, while UW-Parkside improves to 11-2 and 4-1 in the league with its seventh straight victory.

Webster scored a team-high 19 points and added six rebounds and three assists, while Marquardt finished with 15 points.

UMSL used a 14-4 run late in the first half to turn a 21-21 tie into a 35-25 advantage with 3:50 remaining. The Tritons took their largest lead of the game two minutes later at 40-29 on a lay-in by senior Tre Ogles before owning a 40-31 lead at the break.

The Tritons shot 43.1 percent, while UW-Parkside shot 42.3 percent and owned a 38-34 rebounding advantage. The Rangers were led by Alexander Brown's game-high 20 points.

Junior Joseph English dished out four assists and recorded two steals and six rebounds.

UMSL is back in action on Saturday, hosting Lewis at 3 p.m.
