Fletcher Nets Career-High 22 Points as Women’s Basketball Falls at Saint Joseph’s

RENSSALEAR, IND. – Redshirt sophomore Jordan Fletcher scored a career-high 22 points, but it wasn't enough to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team to victory at Saint Joseph's on Thursday night as the host Pumas posted a 75-71 victory in GLVC play.

Fletcher finished 8-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free throw line, while also pulling down 10 rebounds for her third career double-double.

UMSL had a three-game win streak snapped with the loss and slips to 6-6 overall, including 1-3 in the GLVC. Saint Joseph's improves to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the league.

The Pumas used a 13-2 run in the fourth quarter to help garner the win, which didn't come without a late rally from the Tritons. After four straight points from Fletcher put the Tritons ahead, 54-53, one minute into the final quarter, Saint Joseph's hit back-to-back three-pointers to ignite the run, which was capped with seven straight.

UMSL then found new life with seven unanswered of its own, five of which were scored by senior Chelsey Jacox, including a three-pointer that brought the Tritons within 68-65 with 1:03 on the clock. However, the Pumas answered with a three of their own. St. Joseph's was then 3-of-6 at the free throw line in the final 13 seconds, but it was enough to help seal the victory.

Jacox added 11 points, all in the second half.

The Tritons shot 47.1 percent from the field and held a 34-30 rebounding advantage, while Saint Joseph's shot 45.6 percent, but made five more three-pointers than its guests.

UMSL scored the game's first six points and led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. Jacox then opened the second half with a traditional three-point play for the 17-11 advantage, but Saint Joseph's followed with seven straight to take its first lead of the game at 18-17 with 7:21 on the clock. UMSL followed with six straight to retake the lead at 23-18 four minutes later, but the Pumas ended the half with a 14-5 run, scoring 10 straight, to take a 32-28 halftime lead.

Fletcher tied her season-high in the first half with 14 points.

UMSL used a 13-4 burst to start the second half with senior Kelly Kunkel scoring the first five points. The Tritons later took a 41-36 lead midway through the frame as freshman Julie Jurasits laid in her own offensive putback before Saint Joseph's clung to a 51-50 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Junior Sydney Bloch dished out five assists without committing a turnover, while senior Amber Daly added six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Lauren Davis led Saint Joseph's with a game-high 25 points.

UMSL wraps up its weekend roadswing at Indianapolis on Saturday at 1 p.m. (EST).
