INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Junior
Nick Werner scored the game-winner 35 seconds into the second half to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to a 2-1 road victory at Indianapolis on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Werner shot from 15 yards out on the left side after picking up the loose ball. His third goal of the year capped a rally for the Tritons, which fell behind 1-0 in the 17
th minute.
Junior
Patrick Ries scored the equalizer in the 23
rd minute, beating three defenders and the goalie after a long pass from senior
DJ Bednar. It was Ries' team-leading fifth goal, but just his first in the last nine games.
UMSL improves to 9-3-1 overall, including 8-2-1 in the GLVC, while UIndy slips to 6-4-3 and 4-4-3.
The host Greyhounds outshot the Tritons, 21-9, including 9-5 in shots on goal, but senior keeper
Jack Filla made eight saves – all in the second half – to keep UIndy from tying the score.
Ries and sophomore
Jake Meyerkord each had two shots on goal.
UMSL returns to the field on Sunday, traveling to Saint Joseph's.
