Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match to Saginaw Valley to Open Crossover Tournament

AURORA, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team lost a 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20 decision to Saginaw Valley State on Friday as the Tritons opened play at the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament.
 
The Tritons fall to 11-5 overall, while the Cardinals improve to 10-8 overall.
 
Match Highlights
-Saginaw Valley State scored four of the final six points to break from a 21-21 tie.
-The Tritons scored four straight in the second set to ignite a 9-2 run, turning an 11- deficit into an 18-13 lead on an ace from freshman Kendall Buchman. Offensively, freshman Morgan Childers recorded four kills in eight attempts.
-UMSL scored the third set's first three points, but the Cardinals answered with five straight. A 5-1 run by SVSU later made it 17-13 before the Tritons countered with a 6-1 run and pulled within 24-23. Freshman Kylie Rudsinski picked up three kills in four swings in that frame, while senior Lexi Rogers recorded three blocks.
-Saginaw Valley State score four unanswered to break a 16-16 tie en route to the match win in the fourth set.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Rogers recorded 13 kills and six blocks, while freshman Selena Nolte and Rudsinski followed with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
-UMSL outblocked the Cardinals, 14-8. Senior Gaylnn Jones and sophomore Kristen Uradzionek added five each.
- Buchman recorded 23 assists and two service aces, while junior Madyson Abeyta dished out 22 assists.
-Junior Danielle Waedekin tallied 17 digs.
-The Tritons hit .206, while Saginaw Valley State hit .228.
-The two teams combined for 17 service errors, including nine by UMSL.
