ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior
Miriam Taylor scored the game-winner with 15 seconds left in the first overtime to lift the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team to a 3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over visiting Lewis on Friday night.
Taylor's game-winner came after Lewis scored two late goals to force the extra time, erasing a 2-0 UMSL lead. Taylor notched her fourth goal of the year – all of which have been game-winners - by beating the keeper and firing from six yards out.
The victory is the fourth straight for the Tritons, who improve to 7-2 both overall and in the GLVC. Lewis slips to 5-6-1 and 3-5-1 in the league.
Sophomore
McKayla Harder scored UMSL's first two goals in a span of 11 minutes in the first half. Her first came in the 15
th minute after she dribbled down the right side on sophomore
Lauren Lottmann's pass, and fired the shot towards the far post. The ball ricocheted off the post into the back of the net.
Then in the 26
th minute, Harder intercepted the ball from the Flyers goalie, slotted it to the middle of the 18 and put it into the open net for her fourth goal of the season.
It was then Lewis who put together back-to-back goals late in the game. Meg Carmody scored in the 78
th minute as her shot from 10 yards out the right side on the cross found the back of the net, while Angela Toritto's goal tied the contest at 2-2 as she dribbled past the defense for the short shot.
The Tritons outshot their guests, 18-11, including 8-5 in shots on goal. Harder finished with six shot attempts, placing four on target, while senior
Taylor Tosovsky landed two of her three shots on goal.
Sophomore
McKenzie DeRouen played all 99:45 minutes in goal, making three saves despite allowing the two goals.
UMSL wraps up its weekend homestand on Sunday, hosting Wisconsin-Parkside at Noon.
