Men's Soccer Nets Two Goals in 45 Seconds to Top UW-Parkside

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team scored twice in the second half in a span of 45 seconds to fend off visiting Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday afternoon, picking up a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory.

Seniors DJ Bednar and Pim Boonstra teamed up on both goals for the Tritons. Bednar knotted the score at 1-1 at the 65:54 mark as he dribbled up the right side off a pass from Boonstra and found the back off the net on his shot from the wing. Boonstra then one-timed it inside the box off Bednar's corner kick at the 66:39 mark, putting the ball into the near corner on the left side for the eventual game-winner.

The two Triton goals came after Wisconsin-Parkside's Reyes Perez shot from six yards out in the 64th minute, putting the ball in between a sliding Jack Filla's legs for the short-lived 1-0 lead.

UMSL improves to 8-3-1 with the victory, including 7-2-1 in the GLVC, while the Rangers slip to 5-6-1, including 3-6-1 in the league.

UW-Parkside out-shot the Tritons, 15-11, but UMSL held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Junior Nick Werner took three shots, including one on goal, while Boonstra had two shots.

Filla played all 90 minutes in net, recording four saves.

UMSL returns to the field on Friday at Indianapolis in the start of a three-game road trip.
