ROLLA, MO. – Senior
Robneisha Lee scored a career-high 18 points as the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team rallied from a 17-point deficit en route to a 68-65 win at Missouri S&T on Saturday in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons outscored the Miners, 27-10, in the fourth quarter to garner the win, improving to 4-3 overall, including 1-1 in the GLVC. Missouri S&T dips to 5-3, 1-1 in the league.
UMSL shot 80 percent (8-of-10) from the field in that final 10 minutes with junior post players
Jordan Fletcher and
Shelby Dahl combing for 14 points as the Tritons held a 15-2 advantage in points in the point. The Tritons opened the quarter with 12 unanswered points and took a 62-59 lead it would not relinquish with 2:12 to play on Dahl's three-pointer. UMSL then held off Missouri S&T by going 5-of-6 at the free throw line in the final 20 seconds.
The rally overturned a dismal third quarter in which the Miners opened with an 11-0 run, taking a 40-26 lead at the 7:18 mark. Missouri S&T later led by 17 three times, including 52-35 with 2:22 on the clock, connecting at a 75 percent clip from the floor, including going 4-of-5 from three-point range in the third quarter.
Sophomore
Laura Szorenyi added 17 points and three steals, while Fletcher finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Dahl chipped in 11 points, five rebounds and two steals.
UMSL trailed 10-6 near the end of the first quarter, but followed with nine straight, including five from Lee and four from Szorenyi, to take a 15-10 lead one minute into the second quarter. The Miners then scored the final five points of the first half to take a 29-26 lead at the break.
UMSL finished the game shooting 50 percent, while Missouri S&T shot 43.6 percent and owned a 29-25 rebounding advantage.
The Tritons are at UMKC on Wednesday in an exhibition game.
