Men's Basketball Rallies from 22-Point Deficit, But Comeback Bid Falls Short

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team rallied from a 22-point deficit, but came up short at Drury on Saturday in a 77-72 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss.
 
After trailing 45-23 69 seconds into the second half, the Tritons slowly chipped away and tied the game twice, including 67-67 on junior Joseph English's jumper with 2:35 to play. Drury converted a basket on the ensuing possession and then forced an UMSL turnover for another two points for the four-point advantage. The Panthers sealed the game by going 6-of-6 at the free throw line in the final 40 seconds.
 
The Tritons, now with seven league losses by five or fewer points, slips to 11-15 overall, including 5-12 in the GLVC. UMSL will close out the regular season at Maryville on Thursday. Drury improves to 18-7 overall with its sixth straight win, including 13-4 in the GLVC, capturing at least a share of the West Division title.
 
Senior Brandon Marquardt scored 15 of his team-best 20 points in the second half to help fuel the comeback and drained four three-pointers, giving him 81 on the season. Marquardt moves into second place all-time on the single season charts, just three shy of tying Troy Long's mark of 84 in 2011-12.
 
Senior Tre Ogles followed with 16 points, all coming in the final 20 minutes, while adding four rebounds and three assists.

The Tritons finished the game shooting 51.9 percent after a 62 percent second half outing. Drury shot 54.2 percent and held a slim 28-25 rebounding advantage.
 
UMSL started the game just 2-of-9 from the field, while Drury made eight of its first nine attempts and led by 19 three different times en route to a 40-23 halftime lead. UMSL connected on seven of its final 14 shot attempts to up its shooting percentage to 39.1 percent at the break, but committed 10 turnovers, which resulted in 13 Panther points on the other end.
 
Kameron Bundy led Drury with a game-high 24 points.
