CLERMONT, FLA. – The No. 5 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team shut out another pair of opponents on Tuesday, defeating Notre Dame College, 5-0, and Wheeling Jesuit, 1-0, at the NTC Spring Games.
Freshman
Carly Kingery struck out 13 in a complete-game three-hit shutout in the opener, while senior
Hannah Perryman struck out eight in the complete-game four-hit shutout against the Cardinals in the nightcap. The shutout for Perryman was the 46
th of her career, which ties the 25
th most in an NCAA Division II career.
The Tritons, which have blanked 11 opponents this year, improve to 13-1. They close out their trip to Florida tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Findlay and at 7 p.m. against Point Park.
Offensively against Notre Dame, UMSL recorded 11 hits, including a 3-for-3 performance at the plate with two doubles from junior
Rachel Matthies.
Sophomore
Jennah Perryman added two hits and scored two runs, delivering a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it 2-0. Junior
Alex Stupek also recorded two hits, including an RBI single in the sixth inning, in which UMSL scored three runs. Kingery led off the scoring in that frame with an RBI double, while junior
Ryan Logan followed with an RBI single.
The run against Wheeling Jesuit was unearned and came in second inning as the Tritons offense was limited to a season-low two hits. J. Perryman scored the run, reaching on a walk before advancing to second on a passed ball. She then advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on freshman
Serena Olson's RBI groundout.
Stupek recorded a double, while freshman
Reagan Osborn added a single.
