WESTFIELD, IND. – The No. 14 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team split a pair of games on day one of the Regional Crossover on Saturday, defeating Walsh, 4-0, before falling to Tiffin, 6-3.
The Tritons, which had an eight game win streak snapped with the setback, are now 11-2 overall. UMSL will face Kentucky Wesleyan and Saint Joseph's tomorrow.
GAME 1: UMSL 4, WALSH 0Senior
Kurt McGuire tossed the complete game shutout, allowing just four hits, while striking out five and walking two.
Offensively, the Tritons tallied eight hits, including three from senior
Dominic Orlando and two each from junior
Jake Beckwith and senior
Justin Busekrus.
UMSL broke a scoreless game in the fifth inning with three runs on two hits and two Walsh (8-10) errors. Beckwith had a two-run double in that frame, while in the final run came in the eighth inning on Orlando's RBI triple.
GAME 2: Tiffin 6, UMSL 3Three errors plagued the Tritons, which led to three unearned runs for the Dragons (6-8).
Senior
JonMichael Weaver put UMSL on the board in the first inning with an RBI single before Tiffin countered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, both of which were unearned.
Junior
Nick Ulrey evened the score at 2-2 in the fourth with an RBI groundout, but the Dragons followed with four unanswered runs.
Busekrus delivered his second home run of the season in the seventh inning for the final score.
Junior
Zach Lindsay suffered the loss and was tagged with five runs, including three earned, on eight hits in five innings of work.
UMSL finished with nine hits, including two each from Beckwith, Busekrus, Weaver and senior
Jose Ortiz.
