Beckwith Homers Three Times as Tritons Split at Crossover, Defeating Kentucky Wesleyan

WESTFIELD, IND. – Junior Jake Beckwith recorded three home runs on Sunday as the No. 14 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team split a pair of games on the final day of the Regional Crossover. The Tritons suffered a 5-2 defeat to Saint Joseph's, but bounced back with a 13-5 win over Kentucky Wesleyan.

Beckwith, who finished with four hits and six RBIs on the day, previously hit his last home run during his freshman year. Two of his long balls came in the victory.

UMSL improves to 12-3 and begins GLVC play this Friday and Saturday against Maryville. The four-game series was originally scheduled to be played on the Maryville campus, but has been moved to the UMSL Baseball Field. First pitch on Friday is at 12 p.m.

GAME 1: Saint Joseph's 5, UMSL 2
Saint Joseph's avenged an earlier season loss to the Tritons (11-8 on Feb. 28) by jumping out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning on back-to-back two-run doubles as part of a four-hit frame.

Junior Jake Beckwith got two runs back for UMSL in the fourth with a two-run homer, but the Tritons would get just three more hits. Beckwith recorded two of UMSL's six hits, adding a leadoff double in the sixth inning, while senior Dominic Orlando added his second triple of the year.

The Pumas added a run in the eighth inning for the final score.

Junior Jake Renfrow suffered his first loss on the mound this season (3-1), allowing four runs on seven hits, while walking four and striking out four.

GAME 2: UMSL 13, Kentucky Wesleyan 5
After Kentucky Wesleyan plated a first inning run, the Tritons scored five unanswered, including four in the second inning with three coming on a Beckwith three-run home run for a 5-1 lead.

The Panthers tacked on two runs in the top of the third, but UMSL got those runs back in the bottom of the frame. Orlando's triple scored senior JonMichael Weaver before he came home on a wild pitch to make it 7-4.

Beckwith notched his third long ball of the game in the sixth inning for the first of five runs in that frame as the Tritons pulled away.

UMSL out-hit the Panthers, 14-11, with Orlando tallying three hits. Beckwith, senior Justin Busekrus and freshman Matt Foster added two hits each.

Junior Kevin Smith improved to 3-0 with the win, tossing six innings. He allowed three runs on six hits and struck out six, while walking two.
