SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – The No. 7 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team rallied back from yesterday's first GLVC loss to win twice at Illinois Springfield on Sunday.
Senior
Hannah Perryman won both games in the circle, while junior
Alex Stupek recorded five hits.
UMSL improves to 27-2 overall, including 7-1 in the GLVC, while UIS falls to 10-16 and 2-6 in the league.
The Tritons are at Lindenwood on Wednesday for a nonconference doubleheader before returning to GLVC play at home on Friday and Saturday, hosting William Jewell and Rockhurst, respectively.
GAME 1: UMSL 4, Illinois Springfield 0Junior
Alex Stupek broke a scoreless game in the fifth inning with a two-run double that scored freshman
Carly Kingery, who singled to lead off the frame, and freshman
Reagan Osborn, who also doubled.
Junior
Ryan Logan drove in the third run in the sixth inning with an RBI triple, her team-leading third of the year, while Stupek recorded her third RBI of the game in the seventh on a single to extend the lead to 4-0.
Osborn was 2-for-2 at the plate and also reached base on a walk and a hit by pitch, while Stupek and freshman
Alicia Shivers also tallied two hits each. UMSL finished with nine as a team.
Senior
Hannah Perryman notched her 15
th shutout of the season behind the complete game three-hit victory. She struck out 13 and did not issue any walks. It was also the 52
nd shutout of Perryman's career, which puts her in a tie for 15
th place on the NCAA Division II career charts.
GAME 2: UMSL 6, Illinois Springfield 3UMSL got on the board in the first inning on an RBI single from freshman
Serena Olson that scored Stupek, who reached on a triple. Stupek then drove in senior
Erin Walker in the third inning for a 2-0 advantage.
The Prairie Stars got on the board in the fourth inning with a two-run home run, but UMSL regained the lead in the sixth inning with two runs on four hits, including an RBI fielder's choice from Logan and an RBI single from sophomore
Jennah Perryman.
A leadoff walk issued to UIS in the bottom of the sixth came around to score and pulled the hosts within 4-3, but the Tritons answered in the top of the seventh with another two runs on four hits, including RBIs from junior
Sara Kern on a sac fly and Logan on a single.
UMSL recorded 13 hits in the win, including three from Stupek and two from Walker, Shivers and junior
Rachel Matthies.
Perryman allowed three runs on three hits, but struck out 10 to pick up her 22
nd victory.
