ST. LOUIS, MO. – Freshman
Matt Foster delivered another clutch hit to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to an 8-6 win over No. 19 Indianapolis on Tuesday.
Foster recorded a three-run homerun, the first long ball of his collegiate career, to give the Tritons a 7-6 lead in the seventh. Just last Tuesday, Foster recorded a two-run walk-off single in a 5-4 win over McKendree.
Freshman
Tom DeCero added an insurance run in the eighth with his team-leading fourth round-tripper of the year for the final score, while senior
Austin Simokaitis recorded up his 13
th save of the year, retiring all three batters he faced to close out the game.
UMSL improves to 23-13 on the year, while UIndy slips to 25-11.
Foster finished the game with two hits, adding a double, and three RBIs, while senior
Dominic Orlando was 3-for-5 at the plate. Senior
Justin Busekrus added two hits and scored two runs. UMSL out-hit the Greyhounds, 11-9, with six extra base hits, including three homeruns. The two teams combined for five homers in the game.
Both teams homered to get on the board in the second inning with the Greyhounds coming on a two-run shot and the Tritons' coming courtesy of junior
Nick Ulrey's solo shot to centerfield.
The Tritons took the lead in the third inning on RBIs from Busekrus and junior
Tanner Hudson and a balk, while in the fifth inning, UIndy's Storm Joop, who was denied a home run in the third inning as senior centerfielder
Jose Ortiz climbed the wall to rob him of a home run, delivered a clear cut long ball to tie the game.
The Hounds then took a 6-4 lead in the sixth before Foster's heroics.
Junior
Andrew Bicklein picked up the win in two and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief work, allowing just two hits and one walk, while striking out three.
UMSL is at Truman State Saturday and Sunday for a four-game GLVC series.
