EVANSVILLE, IND. – Sophomore
Jennah Perryman delivered a two-out grand slam in the second of two games at Southern Indiana on Sunday to help the No. 6 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team to a sweep at Southern Indiana to close out the regular season.
Perryman's long ball sparked a 7-0 run by the Tritons to end the game en route to the 7-1 victory. UMSL took the opener, 8-4.
The Tritons improve to 48-5 overall, equaling the program's second-most wins, one shy of the record 49 set two years ago. UMSL also wraps up GLVC play with a 26-4 mark, equaling the program record for league wins, also set by the 2013 and 2014 teams. The Tritons finish second in the GLVC regular season and will be the league's No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament, which begins on Friday. Complete tournament details, including UMSL's first round opponent and game time will be released by the conference office later this evening.
GAME 1: UMSL 8, Southern Indiana 4
Junior
Alex Stupek went 4-for-4 as UMSL out-hit the Screaming Eagles, 11-4.
The Tritons jumped out to a 6-0 lead, scoring twice in the second inning on a pair of wild pitches before crossing the plate four times in the third inning. Sophomore
Jennah Perryman had an RBI single in that frame, while junior
Ryan Logan drew a bases loaded walk before freshman
Serena Olson delivered a two-run single.
Southern Indiana scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the third inning on Marleah Fossett's grand slam. Senior
Hannah Perryman allowed three of her four hits in that frame and her lone walk. She struck out 11 in the game, improving to 41-3 in the circle. Perryman also moved her season strikeout total to 501, which ranks third on the NCAA DII single season charts.
Sophomore
Rachel Matthies added two hits, while junior
Sara Kern drove in two runs in the sixth on a single for the final score.
GAME 2: UMSL 7, Southern Indiana 1
J. Perryman and Stupek accounted for all seven runs with Stupek delivering a three-run double in the sixth inning.
Southern Indiana jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a two-out RBI single.
Freshman
Carly Kingery tossed the complete-game victory, allowing the one run on six hits, while walking four and striking out two. She improves to 7-2.
