Box Score ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior Justin Busekrus recorded two hits and two RBIs to help lead the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to an 8-1 nonconference victory over fellow GLVC foe Southern Indiana  on Tuesday afternoon in the Tritons' official home opener.
 
UMSL outhit the Screaming Eagles, 9-7, in the win to improve to 19-7 overall. Southern Indiana slips to 16-11.
 
The Tritons took advantage of back-to-back errors by the Screaming Eagles in the third inning to plate two runs before crossing the plate four times in the fourth inning, which included a two-run single from Busekrus and an RBI single from junior Tanner Hudson.
 
Southern Indiana got on the board in the fifth inning, but UMSL struck for another two runs in the eighth inning on senior Jose Ortiz's two-run single. Ortiz, who also drew a third inning walk, extended his on base streak to 12 games.
 
Senior designated hitter JonMichael Weaver also finished with two hits, while freshman Tom DeCero scored two runs and added a hit, extending his hitting streak to nine games.
 
Junior Jordan Tharp improved to 2-0 on the hill, allowing the one run on six hits in seven innings of work, while striking out six.
 
UMSL returns to the field this weekend to host Quincy in a key four-game GLVC series with doubleheaders slated for Saturday and Sunday.
