ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior
DJ Bednar's goal with just over 13 minutes to play broke a scoreless game and helped the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to a 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over Illinois Springfield on Friday night.
The win was the fourth straight for the Tritons, who improve to 4-1 overall, including 3-0 in the GLVC. Illinois Springfield slips to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
On a night when a steady, and at times heavy, rain fell, Bednar scored his second goal of the season and the 12
th of his career in the 77
th minute when he one-timed the pass from juniors
Nick Werner and
Pat Ries.
UMSL finished with eight shots, placing three on goal, while UIS took six shots and had one on goal. Ries led the team with three shots, two of which came in the first 80 seconds of play.
Senior
Jack Filla made one save, playing all 90 minutes in between the posts.
UMSL returns to the field on Sunday, hosting McKendree at 2:30 p.m.
