ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior
Amber Daly drilled a shot from 35 yards out early in the second half to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team to a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over Illinois Springfield on a soggy night.
The Tritons improve to 2-1 overall and in the GLVC, while the Prairie Stars slip to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.
The game was originally slated to be the home opener for UMSL on the Don Dallas Field, but all day rain prompted the contest to be played on turf at the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex.
Daly's game-winner came after freshman
Rose Crabtree knotted the game in the 32
nd minute to erase a 1-0 deficit. The goals for Crabtree and Daly, a former two-year member of the UMSL women's basketball team, were their first collegiate goals.
Illinois Springfield took a 1-0 lead in the 14
th minute before Crabtree found the back of the net from inside the box on the left side after passes from sophomore
Lee Strande and senior
Kayla Delgado.
UMSL outshot the Prairie Stars, 16-5, while both teams had five shots on goal.
Freshman
Emily Rish played all 90 minutes in goal, recording four saves.
The Tritons continue a four-game homestand on Sunday, hosting McKendree at 12 p.m.
