Tritons Take Down Greyhounds in Three Sets in GLVC Opener

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 25-20, 25-23, 25-17 win over Indianapolis on Friday night, which also marked the Tritons' home opener.
 
UMSL won its fifth straight match to improve to 6-2 overall, while UIndy slips to 2-7 overall. The win also snapped a seven-match losing streak to the Greyhounds and marked the Tritons' first victory in the series since a 3-2 win during the 2008 campaign.
 
Match Highlights
-Senior Lexi Rogers tallied six kills in six attempts in the opening set and used an 8-2 run to end the frame to garner the set one victory.
-UIndy jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second set and after chipping away, scored four straight to take a 22-21 lead on a Greyhounds setting error. The guests got two back for a 23-22 advantage and forced an UMSL timeout. The Tritons responded with three straight to end the frame on a kill from Rogers, an ace from junior Madyson Abeyta and a kill from freshman Selena Nolte.
-The Tritons hit .269 in the third set, while limiting the Greyhounds to .032 hitting. Five straight UIndy errors, including four attacking errors, helped the Tritons turn a 13-10 lead into a 17-10 advantage.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UMSL hit .260 in the match, while UIndy hit .121.
-Rogers finished with 10 kills and three blocks, helping the Tritons to a 10-5 advantage in that category.
-Junior Madyson Abeyta recorded 16 assists, while sophomore Kayla Shane had 11.
-Junior Danielle Waedekin tallied 14 digs, while sophomore Kristen Uradzionek had five blocks.
