ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit to post a 3-2 win over visiting Drury on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Tritons lost the opening two frames, 25-23 and 25-22 before winning the next three 25-18, 29-27, 15-12.
UMSL, which was playing its first five-set match of the season, improves to 8-4 overall, including 3-2 in the GLVC, while Drury moves to 9-5 and 3-2 in the league.
Match Highlights
-The Tritons hit .270 in the final three sets after hitting .128 in the first two.
-UMSL led 14-10 in the first set, but saw Drury saw six straight for a 16-14 lead. The Tritons then fended off four set points before the Panthers secured the win.
-Drury scored five straight to close out the second set victory as they rallied from a 21-18 deficit.
-In the third set, junior
Madyson Abeyta served up three straight service aces for a 10-6 lead.
-UMSL scored the final three points of the fourth set and rallied from a 24-21 deficit. Freshmen
Selena Nolte and
Kylie Rudsinski each had five kills in that frame.
-UMSL outblocked the Panthers, 3-1, in the final set to limit Drury to .120 hitting. Neither took more than a one-point lead until Rudsinski's kill made it 11-9. The Panthers tied it at 11, but three straight attack errors, including two courtesy of the UMSL block put the Tritons on top, 14-11.
Inside the Box Score
-Nolte led the Tritons with 18 kills, while Rudskinski finished with 16.
-Senior
Lexi Rogers added 16 kills and six blocks to help UMSL to an 11-8 blocking advantage. Nolte added four blocks, while sophomore
Kristen Uradzionek added five.
-Abeyta recorded 33 assists, 11 digs and four service aces.
-Junior
Danielle Waedekin tallied a career-best 30 digs.
-UMSL hit .212 with 63 kills, while Drury hit .138 with 61 kills.
-The Tritons finished with nine service aces to help overcome 12 service errors.
Other Notes
-UMSL moved into a three-way tie for third place in the GLVC West Division with Drury and William Jewell, one game behind co-leaders Quincy and Rockhurst.
-UMSL improves to 3-0 at home this season.
