ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team shot 51.9 percent in the second half to overcome a dismal first half, but couldn't rally past Maryville in a 62-50 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss at Maryville Monday night.
The Tritons, playing their third road game in five days, slip to 7-8 overall, including 2-5 in the GLVC, while Maryville improves to 6-8 and 2-5 in the league.
UMSL trimmed a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to seven at 51-44 with 2:35 to play, but would get no closer.

Robneisha Lee scored a team-best 15 points and added four steals.

Laura Szorenyi added 13 points, including 11 in the second half, and pulled down a six rebounds, while junior
Jordan Fletcher also reached double figures with 12 points to go with six rebounds and three blocks.
-UMSL shot 38.2 percent, while Maryville shot 53.5 percent, including 61.9 percent in the second half, and owned a 32-26 rebounding advantage. The Tritons held a 10-5 advantage on the offensive end, outscoring the home team, 7-2, in second chance points.
-UMSL had just 12 turnovers to Maryville's 18 and held a 16-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
How it Happened
A sluggish second quarter hampered the Tritons, who were outscored 18-2 in the frame. UMSL scored its only bucket on Szorenyi jumper at the 8:17 mark for an 18-12 lead. Maryville finished the frame with a 15-0 run for a 27-18 halftime advantage as the Tritons shot just 25 percent from the field.
UMSL owned a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. The Tritons jumped out to an early 7-2 lead before the Saints evened the score at 11-11. UMSL ended the frame with the final five points, including a three-pointer from junior
Sammie Sproul.
UMSL shot 46.2 percent in the third quarter, but the Saints blazed the nets at 61.5 percent to post a 44-31 lead with the final 10 minutes to play.
