ST. LOUIS, MO. – Redshirt sophomore
Jason Towery scored a season-high 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team closed out the Maryville Classic with a 75-63 win over Purdue Northwest on Tuesday afternoon.

Johnathan Matthews scored a team-high 16 points, while adding season-highs of eight rebounds and seven assists.

How it Happened
UMSL took a 36-23 lead into halftime. The Tritons jumped out to an 11-5 lead five minutes in with three of their first four field goals coming from long range. The Pride rallied to tie it at 14-14, but UMSL followed with eight unanswered.
A three-pointer from senior
Steven Davis with 13:52 to play in the contest equaled UMSL's largest lead of the game at 50-32, forcing a Purdue Northwest timeout. The Pride followed by scoring eight straight to ignite a 10-1 run that cut the advantage to 51-43. Matthews and Towery answered with a combined eight points to push the lead back to 16 (59-43). Purdue Northwest got within nine at the 5:20 mark, but four straight from freshman
Jose Grubbs kept the game in double figures.
Numbers of Note
- UMSL shot 45.6 percent, including 50 percent in the second half and finished 7-of-16 (43.8 percent) from three-point range.
- Purdue Northwest shot 30.9 percent and was held to just 28.1 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
- The Tritons pulled down a season second-high 46 rebounds with Davis grabbing a career-high nine. Davis also scored 15 points, knocking down 4-of-8 three-pointers.
- All 10 UUMSL players that checked into the game scored at least one point.
