Missouri S&T Edges Men's Basketball Late

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team saw visiting Missouri S&T erase a 17-point deficit en route to rallying for a 69-66 win Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
 
The Miners outscored the Tritons, 51-33, in the second half and led for just the final 16 seconds of the contest.
 
UMSL slips to 10-16 overall, including 4-12 in the GLVC, while Missouri S&T improves to 11-12 and 5-11 in the league.
 
Numbers of Note
-Senior Hunter Reine recorded his ninth double-double of the year with 11 points and 16 rebounds, while junior Elijah Watson tallied 12 points and 11 assists – which ties the third most in a single game in program history.
 
-Reine pulled down double digit rebounds for the 10th time this season, including for the third straight game.
 
-Junior Steven Davis led the team in scoring with 14 points and added two blocked shots.
 
-UMSL shot 41.8 percent, while Missouri S&T connected at a 35.6 percent clip and held a 40-36 rebounding advantage, including an 18-12 edge on the offensive end.
 
How it Happened
The Tritons limited the Miners to 21.4 percent shooting and six field goals in the first half to post a 33-18 halftime advantage.
 
After a layup by senior Joseph English made it 44-30 with 14:46 to play in the second half, the Miners followed with an 8-1 run, pulling within 45-38. UMSL upped the lead to 55-45 with 8:24 remaining, but Missouri S&T closed the game on a 24-11 run, taking its first lead at 67-66 with 22 seconds to go.
