GULF SHORES, ALA. – The
Amanda Scott era got underway with a win on Friday as the No. 22 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team opened the 2017 campaign with a 5-3 victory over Delta State in the Gulf Coast Invitational. The Tritons were then handed their first defeat with an 11-5 setback to No. 23 ranked Alabama-Huntsville in their nightcap.

HIGHLIGHTS
-Senior
Alex Stupek and sophomore
Serena Olson each delivered a solo home run in their first at-bats of the season. Stupek's came in the second inning, while Olson followed in the third frame.
-UMSL tacked on two runs in the fifth inning to make it 4-0 with senior
Ryan Logan driving in sophomore
Reagan Osborn with a double and Stupek bringing home Logan on a double.
-The Statesmen broke up sophomore
Carly Kingery's no-hitter with a lead-off single in the bottom of the fifth, which also led to their first run in the three-run frame that cut the UMSL lead to 4-3. The last two runs were both unearned.
-Olson's RBI groundout in the top of the seventh gave the Tritons an insurance run.
KEY STATS
-Stupek finished with two hits and two RBI, while Logan added two hits and Olson recorded two RBIs.
-The Tritons outhit the Statesmen, 7-6.
-Kingery tossed the complete game-winner, striking out six.

HIGHLIGHTS
-UAH scored three first inning runs on four hits and plated six runs on three hits and three UMSL errors in the fifth inning to pull ahead, 11-5.

Jennah Perryman got the Tritons on the board with an RBI groundout in the second before a two-run homerun from Osborn in the third knotted the game at 3-3.
-The Chargers took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but it was short-lived thanks to Logan's two-run single in the top of the fifth.
KEY STATS
-UAH tallied 10 hits to UMSL's six.
-Osborn recorded two hits and two RBIs, while Logan also had two RBIs.

Andee Tiffee suffered the loss in the circle. She struck out five, but gave up seven hits and walked six.

Amanda Scott began her tenure at UMSL with a win in the opener.
-Stupek's home run in game one was the 40
th of her career. She sits in third place on the career charts, needing 11 to surpass Brianna Butler's (2012-15) 50 long balls.
-Stupek also moved within one run of the career record of 138 held by Jena Boudreau (2012-15).
