JACKSONVILLE, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team tallied 15 hits en route to picking up its third straight win on Thursday with an 11-7 victory at Illinois Springfield.
The Tritons improve to 5-7 overall, while the Prairie Stars slip to 8-8. The win by UMSL also avenged an 11-0 loss to UIS 12 days ago.
How it Happened
-UMSL equaled the score at 1-1 in the second inning on junior
Jacob Monti's RBI single and took a 2-1 lead in the third when junior
Jake Morsch drove in freshman
Derrick Freeman, who led off with a triple.
-UMSL would then score three more unanswered with two runs crossing the plate in the fifth to extend the advantage to 4-1. Morsch picked up his second RBI with a groundout, while senior
Nick Ulrey added a two-out RBI single.
-The Tritons plated two more runs in the sixth thanks to two UIS errors as the lead grew to 6-1. Freshman
Jarrett O'Brien, playing in his first game of the season, collected his first collegiate single and RBI for the first run.
-UMSL exploded for five runs on five hits in the eighth, including three consecutive for extra base with two outs – a two-run double from Ulrey, a two-run double from senior
Tanner Hudson and a two-run homer from junior
Cooper Vinz that quickly made it 11-2.

Jacob Renfrow picked up his second win of the year on the mound. He went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out five and walking three. After allowing one-out home run in first, Renfrow didn't surrender another hit until a lead-off single in the fifth.
-Freeman finished with three hits, drew two walks and scored three runs, while Ulrey tallied two hits and recorded three RBIs. Junior
Cooper Vinz added two hits and two RBIs.
