CLERMONT, FL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team opened its spring trip to Florida on Saturday with a 7-3 loss to Tiffin before bouncing back to shutout Bentley, 10-0, in five innings.
The Tritons (12-6) had a combined six home runs in the two contests.
GAME 1: Tiffin 7, UMSL 3
How it Happened
-Tiffin won the game with a walk-off grand slam that followed a two-out error by the Tritons that tied the game at 3-3.
-The Dragons got on the board first with a run in the first, but a two-run homer by senior
Sara Kern in the second followed by a solo home run from sophomore
Reagan Osborn made it 3-1 Tritons.
-Tiffin (7-0) rallied with a four-hit, six-run seventh inning and scored its first run in that frame on a bases loaded walk.
KEY STATS
-UMSL finished with eight hits, including two each from Osborn and senior
Erin Walker.
-Sophomore
Carly Kingery (6-3) allowed two earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out seven and walked one.
GAME 2: UMSL 10, Bentley 0 (5 inn.)
How it Happened
-UMSL hit four home runs, including two from sophomore
Serena Olson with her second being a grand slam in the fifth inning that ended the contest.
-The Tritons hit three home runs in the first inning, courtesy of Osborn, Olson and senior
Alex Stupek.
-Kern drove in two runs, using a single in the first inning and a bases loaded walk in the second that made it 5-0.
KEY STATS
-Olson finished 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBI and two runs scored.
-Stupek and junior
Rachel Matthies each finished with two hits, while Matthies also scored a pair of runs.
-Freshman
Andee Tiffee tossed the complete game two-hit shutout with two strikeouts.
