CLEARWATER, FLA. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the score at 11-11, but Ohio Valley got the game-winner across the plate in the 10th inning to defeat the Tritons, 12-11. UMSL was playing its first of six games in Florida this week.
Senior
Nick Ulrey drove in two runs to make it 11-10, while senior
Tanner Hudson followed with an RBI single to tie the game.
UMSL (0-6) out-hit Ohio Valley, 16-10, but left 16 runners on base, including bases loaded in the fifth and ninth frames.
Hudson finished with three hits, while junior
Chris Mathes and freshman
Derrick Freeman had three hits each and scored two runs. Junior
Cooper Vinz tallied two hits, including a three-run triple in the eighth inning that gave UMSL an 8-7 lead.
The Tritons led 3-0 after the first four innings, which included two runs in the fourth on an RBI double from Mathes followed by an RBI single from Freeman.
The Fighting Scots took their first lead in the bottom of the seventh at 7-5 and used a three-run triple in the eighth for an 11-8 advantage.
UMSL is back on the field tomorrow at 10 a.m. (EST) against Cedarville.
