CLEARWATER, FL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team scored three unanswered runs en route to defeating Cedarville, 7-5, to pick up its first win of the season.
The Tritons plated two runs in the sixth, including senior
Nick Ulrey's RBI single that knotted the game at 5-5, and senior
Tanner Hudson's RBI single that gave UMSL a 6-5 lead. Ulrey then doubled in the eighth for an insurance run.
UMSL (1-6) tallied 16 hits in the victory, including three each from Ulrey and Hudson and freshman
Derrick Freeman. Freeman scored three runs, while Ulrey finished with three RBI.
Both teams scored in the first and second innings in which UMSL held a 4-2 lead. A three-run fourth inning by the Yellowjackets gave Cedarville a 5-4 advantage.
Senior
Kevin Smith earned the win on the mound in six innings of work, allowing five runs, including four earned, on nine hits, while senior
Jacob Renfrow picked up the save.
The Tritons return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. (EST) against Oakland City.
