Softball Knocks Off No. 7 Grand Valley State on Two-Win Day

CLERMONT, FL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team earned another pair of victories in Florida on Tuesday, including a 2-0 win over No. 7 ranked Grand Valley State. The Tritons also defeated Walsh, 5-1.
 
UMSL improves to 16-6 overall.
 
GAME 1: UMSL 5, Walsh 1
How it Happened
-Sophomore Serena Olson started a two-run first inning for the Tritons with a solo home run, while senior Erin Walker added an RBI double to score senior Alex Stupek.
 
-An RBI double by senior Ryan Logan in the second inning made it 3-0.
 
-Senior Sara Kern drove in the final two runs, using an RBI triple in the third and an RBI infield single in the fifth.
 
KEY STATS
-UMSL recorded eight hits, including two each from Kern and Olson.
-Freshman CoCo Caraway tossed the complete-game winner. She scattered seven hits, struck out three and walked two.
 
GAME 2: UMSL 2, Grand Valley State 0
How it Happened
-Kern's RBI double in the second inning drove in Stupek, who led off the frame with a walk, while sophomore Reagan Osborn used an RBI groundout in the fifth inning to add insurance run with freshman Annie Kroeger coming across the plate.
 
-Grand Valley State left two runners on in the seventh inning, including a runner at third, which was its only runner to get past second base.
 
KEY STATS
-Sophomore Carly Kingery (8-3) picked up her second shutout, striking out eight, while allowing six hits and issued just one free pass.
-UMSL recorded just four hits and drew three walks. Kern's double was the only extra base hit for the Tritons.
 
UP NEXT
UMSL will play its final two games in Florida tomorrow, beginning at 9 a.m. (EST) against Mercyhurst and concluding at 11:30 a.m. (EST) against Minnesota-Duluth.
