CLERMONT, FL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team ran its win streak to six games on Wednesday as the Tritons closed out their trip to Florida with wins over
Mercyhurst (10-3) and Minnesota-Duluth (2-0).
UMSL wraps up its nonconference schedule with an 18-6 mark, which included a 7-1 record in its eight games in Florida.
GAME 1: UMSL 10, Mercyhurst 3
How it Happened
-A six-run fourth inning by the Tritons broke open the game and helped UMSL pull away from a 2-1 lead. UMSL rattled off six hits in the frame, including RBI triples from seniors
Ryan Logan and
Alex Stupek.
-Junior
Rachel Matthies, who used an RBI single in the third inning to give UMSL a 2-1 lead, and also had an RBI single in the fourth, added her third RBI in the fifth with another single to give her team a 9-1 advantage.
KEY STATS
-UMSL recorded 15 hits, including five for extra base, with three of those being triples.
-Matthies went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs.
-Sophomore
Reagan Osborn went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
-Logan and senior
Erin Walker each had two hits and two runs scored.
-Freshman
Kianah Towe recorded her first collegiate win, allowing three runs on six hits in the complete game victory. She struck out four and issued no free passes.
GAME 2: UMSL 2, Minnesota-Duluth 0
How it Happened
-An RBI double from Walker in the fourth broke the scoreless game, while an RBI single from Matthies in the fifth drove in an insurance run.
KEY STATS
-UMSL's win snapped UMD's six-game win streak.
-The Bulldogs never got a runner past second as sophomore
Carly Kingery kept the opponents in check with just three hits. Kingery also retired the final seven batters she faced.
-The shutout was Kingery's second straight. She struck out five and issued no walks.
-Matthies accounted for two of UMSL's six hits and finished the day 6-for-8 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored.

The Tritons are idle until March 18 when they host Illinois Springfield in the
GLVC opener. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for Noon.
