Box Score CLEARWATER, FL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to erase a 6-0 deficit, but couldn't complete the rally in a 6-5 loss to Minnesota-Crookston on Thursday afternoon.
The Tritons slip to 2-7 overall, while Minnesota-Crookston improves to 4-3. The two teams will meet again on Saturday in UMSL's final contest in Florida.
The Tritons recorded seven of their hits in that eighth inning, including a two-run pinch hit single from junior
Cole McDonald. Freshman
Derrick Freeman, who had two hits, led off the frame with a single, while senior
Nick Ulrey brought him home with a single. Senior
Tanner Hudson and junior
Cooper Vinz also had RBI singles.
Junior
Jake Morsch tallied a team-best three hits as the Tritons outhit the Golden Eagles, 14-9.
Freshman
Bobby Shallenberger suffered the loss in his first collegiate start despite allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out nine in six and two-thirds of an inning. He surrendered just one run on three hits through his first six innings of work.
UMSL left two runners on base in the ninth, including Morsch who was on third.
The Tritons will play Ohio Valley tomorrow at 2 p.m. (EST).
