KANSAS CITY, MO. – Senior
Kevin Smith tossed a complete game four-hit shutout in the series finale, helping the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to a doubleheader sweep at Rockhurst on Saturday with victories of 9-8 and 5-0.
With the two wins, the Tritons claim in the series, 3-1, and improve to 13-20, including 7-9 in the GLVC. Rockhurst slips to 18-20 and 6-11 in the league.
GAME 1: UMSL 9, Rockhurst 8
How it Happened
- A seven-run fifth inning highlighted the action and turned a 4-2 deficit into a 9-4 advantage. The Tritons recorded six hits and took advantage of three Rockhurst errors. Senior
Tanner Hudson had an RBI double, while redshirt freshmen
Dylan Hoelscher and
Derrick Freeman each recorded an RBI single.
- Both teams plated two runs in the first inning with UMSL's coming on RBIs from junior
Cooper Vinz and senior
Nick Ulrey.
- Rockhurst threatened to rally in the bottom of the seventh, crossing the plate three times and leaving the tying run on base.

GAME 2: UMSL 5, Rockhurst 0
How it Happened
- Smith shut down the Hawks offense, limiting the hosts to four hits and four other base runners on walks. Rockhurst had just two baserunners reach third base.
- Offensively, UMSL recorded 13 hits, including three each from Hudson and Vinz, who tallied two doubles.
- Vinz got the Tritons on the board in the first inning with a two-out, full count double and after three scoreless innings, tacked on another run in the fifth when
Hoelscher scampered home on the wild pitch.
-The eighth inning saw three runs on four hits, including Hudson's RBI single and DeCero's RBI single.
Series Notes
- UMSL recorded 54 hits in the four games, while Rockhurst tallied 40. The Tritons had 13 doubles.
