WARRENSBURG, MO. – Junior
Jake Morsch recorded six hits and three RBI on Friday despite the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropping the first two contests of a four-game GLVC series to Missouri S&T.
The games were scheduled to be played in Rolla, Mo., but the threat of rain forced the series to be moved to the campus of Central Missouri on a turf field.
UMSL slips to 15-25, including 9-13 in the GLVC, while Missouri S&T improves to 23-18 and 13-9 in the league. The final two games are scheduled for a Noon start tomorrow, depending on weather.
Game 1: Missouri S&T 6, UMSL 5
Game Highlights
- Missouri S&T owned a 6-1 lead before the Tritons scored four unanswered and put the game-tying run on base to lead off the ninth. UMSL left seven runners on base to the Miners' two.
- A two-run homer in the first gave the Miners an early 2-0 lead, while UMSL got on the board in the third on an RBI single up the middle from Morsch.
- A three-run fifth for Missouri S&T built the lead to 6-1 before the Tritons struck with a three-run seventh. Senior
Jake Beckwith drove in one run with a double, while Morsch added a two-run double.

Tom DeCero brought the Tritons within 6-5 in the eighth with an RBI single.
Statistically Speaking
- Morsch was 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI, while Beckwith finished with two hits and scored two runs.
- Reliever
Alex Oltmann got his first start on the hill, scattering eight hits and allowing all six runs. He walked just one.
- Junior
Jon Shanker tossed two scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits, while striking out two.
- Both teams tallied 10 hits.
Game 2: Missouri S&T 8, UMSL 3
Game Highlights
- UMSL struck for two runs in the first, scoring one on a sac fly by senior
Tanner Hudson, while another run came home on a same play courtesy of a Miners throwing error.
- After a two-out error by the Tritons in the bottom of the fourth helped Missouri S&T knot it up at 2-2, UMSL loaded the bases in the fifth, but couldn't get a run across.
- Another UMSL error in the bottom of the fifth led to three unearned runs in a four-run, two-hit frame to give the Miners a 6-2 advantage.
- Junior
Cooper Vinz got one run back, leading off the sixth with a solo home run.
Statistically Speaking
- Morsch added two more hits for UMSL, which was outhit, 11-6.
- Senior
Jacob Renfrow suffered the loss, despite allowing just two earned runs. He struck out five, walked one and scattered six hits in four and one-thirds of an inning.
