ST. LOUIS, MO. – Former UMSL men's soccer goalkeeper
Jack Filla has been signed by the USL club Saint Louis FC.
"Since I was in high school, I knew I wanted to play professional and made that a long-term goal of mine," Filla said. "It's nice to be able to achieve that. And then playing in St. Louis for my hometown team makes it that much sweeter."
A two-year starter in goal, Filla earned NSCAA First Team All-Midwest Region and Second Team All-honors this past fall. He posted a 10-7-1 record in goal, recording 82 saves, five shutouts and a goals against average of 1.13. He was also a two-time GLVC Defensive Player of the Week selection and helped UMSL to a record of 10-7-1. The Tritons also received their first NSCAA national ranking earlier this year, which was also the program's first national ranking since 1992.
At the conclusion of his senior season, Filla began training with Brian Jones, goalkeeper coach for the STLFC, and other pro goalkeepers in the St. Louis area, three to four days a week.
"I am looking forward to having the opportunity to play with some very good players at a high level day in and day out and want to maximize my potential as a player. This has really helped me grow my game and become a better player."
