ST. LOUIS, MO. – Reigning NCAA DII Player of the Year Lyndsay Butler tossed a no-hitter as No. 4 seed Wayne State defeated the top-seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team on Friday in the NCAA Midwest Regional.
The Tritons will now play the winner of No. 8 Kentucky Wesleyan and No. 5 Truman State at 5 p.m. in an elimination game.
Butler faced the minimum 21 batters. UMSL had two runners reach base – one in the first and one in the second on Warrior errors, but double plays knocked both runners off the base paths.
Wayne State broke the scoreless game in the second inning with a solo home run – the first allowed by Tritons starter
Carly Kingery since April 9 – and added two more runs on a two-out double in the third.
Kingery allowed six hits in five innings of work, while striking out five and did not issue a walk.
Wayne State advances to tomorrow's championship game and must be beat twice in order to not move on to next weekend's Super Regional.
