Panthers Take Two From Tritons in Start of Final Series

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Visiting Drury posted wins of 7-2 and 7-0 over the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team on Saturday as the two teams opened their final four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference series of the season.
 
UMSL slips to 15-29, including 9-17 in the GLVC, while the Panthers improve to 32-16 and 18-8 in the league. The Tritons will conclude the series and their season tomorrow at Noon. Prior to the contest, UMSL will also honor its 11 seniors.
 
Game 1: Drury 7, UMSL 2
A 4-0 lead after the first inning helped the Panthers to the win. The Tritons got runs back in the second and third innings, on RBI singles from juniors Jacob Monti and Cooper Vinz, respectively.
 
Vinz finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk, an RBI and a run scored, while seniors Jack Beckwith and Nick Ulrey each added two hits. Drury tallied 11 hits to UMSL's 10.
 
Senior Damin Smith made his second collegiate start on the mound.
 
Game 2: Drury 7, UMSL 0
The Panthers used a four-run first and a three-run third to score their runs, while pitcher Garrett Woods kept the UMSL bats quiet, allowing just six hits and striking out seven.
 
Beckwith and junior Jake Morsch were both 2-for-3 at the plate.
 
Senior Andrew Bicklein earned the start, while junior Jim Brandt tossed two scoreless and hitless innings in relief, striking out three of the six batters he faced.
