CALEDONIA, MICH. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 5-1 loss at Davenport on Thursday afternoon.
 
Junior transfer Nick Harper scored the lone goal for the Tritons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Davenport, in its first year as an NCAA DII member after finishing third nationally in the NAIA last year, jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead seven and a half minutes into the contest with both goals coming in a span of 1:33.
- The Panthers added two more goals in the 20^th and 21^st minutes for a 4-0 lead.
- Harper got UMSL on the board in the 31^st minute when he lobbed the ball over the Davenport keeper from 25 yards out at the top right of the box. Junior Aldin Sabotic assisted on the play.
-Davenport added an insurance goal in the 68^th minute.
 
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Davenport held a 17-7 advantage in shots, including 13-4 in shots on goal.
- Senior Pat Ries took three shots for UMSL, landing three on goal.
- Senior Jake Schmidt played all 90 minutes in goal, making eight saves.
