ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday night with a 2-0 victory over No. 21 ranked Southern Indiana.
The Tritons received goals from junior
Kenan Selimovic and senior
Pat Ries, while defensively, they recorded their first shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Selimovic got the Tritons on the board in the 16
th minute on just their second shot of the night. Junior
Mark Skrivan fed the ball to Selimovic outside the 18 and Selimovic spun around his defender, firing the ball from the right side into the far left corner.
- Ries added an insurance goal – his third score of the year – in the 86
th minute. Ries picked up the ball in the middle of the box before finding the back left corner of the goal. Senior

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- UMSL finished with 13 shots, including seven on goal, while Southern Indiana was limited to six shots.

Jake Schmidt played all 90 minutes in goal, making two saves, including one early in the second half that nearly tied the game, but Schmidt was able to jump up and punch the ball out of play.
- Selimovich took a team-high three shots, while Ries placed both of his shots on goal.
