Tritons Fend Off Knights for Fifth Straight Win

ST. LOUIS, MO. – A strong third quarter by the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team helped the Tritons overcome a five-point halftime deficit en route to picking up their fifth straight win with a 72-61 victory over Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
 
The Tritons outscored the Knights, 21-11, in the third frame before going 20-of-26 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

How it Happened
Both teams were deadlocked at 16-16 after the first quarter, while an 11-0 run in the second quarter helped the Knights to a 31-26 halftime lead.
 
The Tritons opened the third quarter with an 11-2 start and took a 37-33 lead on a three-pointer from junior Kaitlynn Henning. UMSL led 47-42 at the end of the third quarter, shooting 58.3 percent in that frame.
 
The Tritons took advantage of 16 fouls called against Bellarmine in the final quarter and scored 20 of their 25 points in those 10 minutes at the free throw line.
 
Numbers of Note
- UMSL finished game 30-of-39 at the charity stripe.
- The Tritons shot 40 percent.
- Junior Arielle Jackson scored 20 points, finishing 10-of-12 at the free throw line.
- Senior Jordan Fletcher added 16 points with her 13th straight double figure outing.
- Junior Kaitlynn Henning added 14 points, all in the second half.
- Senior Shawnta Johnson finished with nine points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
- Bellarmine, which shot 38.1 percent, held a 37-35 rebounding advantage, including a 13-8 edge on the offensive end. The Knights outscored the Tritons, 10-4, in second chance points.
