Women's Basketball Celebrates Senior Day With Win Over Illinois Springfield

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day with a 65-42 victory over Illinois Springfield on Saturday.
 
The Tritons picked up their 11th straight win by limiting their guests to 29.4 percent shooting. The 42 points were the fewest allowed in a GLVC game this season for the Tritons and the second fewest surrendered this season.
 
After the game, the senior class of Shelby Dahl, Jordan Fletcher, Shawnta Johnson and Sammie Sproul were all honored.

How it Happened
UMSL owned leads of 12-10 and 17-11 after the first and second quarters, respectively. The Tritons used a 10-0 run to open the second frame, going 5-of-7 from the field, with senior Jordan Fletcher scoring six points and junior Arielle Jackson tallying four, to make it 22-13. The Prairie Stars were 0-7 during that stretch and didn't score until the 3:29 mark. UMSL's largest lead of the HALF came on a lay in by senior Shawnta Johnson at 1:13 for a 29-17 advantage.
 
Three points by UIS and two to open the second half cut the Tritons' lead to 29-24, but UMSL answered with eight straight to ignite a 13-2 run that extended it to 42-26. The Tritons outscored the Prairie Stars, 25-9, in that frame behind 60 percent shooting.
 
Numbers of Note
- Senior Jordan Fletcher scored a game-high 23 points, notching her fifth straight 20-plus game. She also pulled down eight rebounds and blocked two shots, moving within three of tying the career record of 133.
- Junior Arielle Jackson added 14 points, five assists and five rebounds.
- Junior Kaitlynn Henning tossed in 12 points, including 10 in the second half.
- Senior Shawnta Johnson finished with nine rebounds and six assists.
- UMSL shot 43.1 percent and held a 42-27 rebounding advantage, including a 10-4 edge on the offensive end.
- The Tritons were 12-of-12 at the free throw line with Jackson making six of those.
- UMSL improved to 11-0 in the Mark Twain Building.
