ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team got a pair of quality starts on the mound from seniors
Kevin Smith and
Jim Brandt on Sunday as the Tritons split with visiting Bellarmine. The Knight took the opener, 3-2, while the Tritons bounced back for a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
Smith struck out a career-high 11 despite the loss in the opener as three errors led to three unearned runs, while Brandt had a career-high eight strikeouts in the win.

Smith scattered just four hits, but was tagged with the loss as three unearned runs crossed the plate behind three Triton errors in the fifth inning.
Both of UMSL's runs came home on ground out double plays, including one on the second and one in the third that gave the home team a 2-0 lead.

Brian Seymour had two of UMSL's seven hits.
Game 2: UMSL 3, Bellarmine 1
UMSL got on the board first in the first inning on an RBI double from junior
Tom DeCero and after the Knights knotted the score at 1-1 in the second, the Tritons took the lead for good in a two-run, four-hit fifth.
Redshirt sophomore
Derrick Freeman used an RBI double, while Seymour followed with an RBI single to make it 3-1.
Brand went seven innings, allowing just two hits and one run.
UMSL out-hit the Knights, 7-4, and had four doubles.
