ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team out-hit visiting Southern Indiana, 13-10, but suffered a 16-5 loss in a nonconference game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Screaming Eagles took advantage of six Triton errors, 13 walks and three hit-by-pitches.
Records: UMSL (8-10), Southern Indiana (8-9)
USI scored five runs in the first inning and led 9-1 after two innings of play.
UMSL got on the board in the bottom of the first when freshman
Josh Shoemaker used an RBI single to drive in senior
Jake Morsch.
Redshirt junior
Brian Seymour added a run in the third with an RBI groundout, while in the seventh senior
Jacob Monti singled through the left side to score freshman
Xavier Collier.
UMSL's final two runs came home in the ninth inning on RBI singles from junior
Tom DeCero and Monti.
Redshirt sophomore
Derrick Freeman had a team-best three hits, including a triple, and scored two runs, while Monti finished with two hits and two RBI in his two at-bats. Shoemaker and Collier also had two hits each.
