Baseball Scores Eight Unanswered to Defeat Cedarville

KISSIMMEE, FLA. – Freshman AJ Davis went 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBI to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to a 13-10 win over Cedarville on Monday afternoon in the Sunshine State Games.

The Tritons (4-2) scored eight unanswered runs en route to the win, erasing a 10-5 deficit, while senior Jim Brandt picked up the win in four and two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief work, scattering just one hit, while striking out six. Junior Matt Graser recorded the save, coming in with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth.

UMSL plated four of those runs in the sixth inning, where they took advantage of three walks and recorded two hits – a two-run triple from freshman Xavier Collier and an RBI single from Davis - to tie the game at 10-10.

The eventual game-winner came in the seventh when sophomore Derrick Freeman scored on a two-out passed ball. Senior Jake Morsch drove in an insurance run in that same frame, while sophomore Jarrett O'Brien drew his fourth walk of the contest in the eighth inning with the bases loaded for the final score.

Davis gave the Tritons their first run of the game with a single in the first inning, while senior Cole McDonald followed with another RBI single to make it 2-0.

Cedarville (3-5) then scored nine straight, including eight in the third inning, for a 9-2 advantage, before a Davis two-run double in the third and an RBI groundout from Freeman gave UMSL three runs back.

The Yellow Jackets scored their final run in the fourth inning, while the Tritons started their scoring run in the bottom of that frame with an RBI triple from senior Cooper Vinz.

UMSL recorded 11 hits with Vinz and Collier each recording two. O'Brien drew four of the 10 walks drawn by the Tritons and scored three runs.

UMSL returns to the field tomorrow at 11 a.m. (EST) against No. 25 Seton Hill.
