KISSIMMEE, FLA. – Senior
Jake Morsch delivered a one-out, two-run single to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to a 4-3 win over No. 22 ranked Seton Hill on Tuesday in the Sunshine State Games.
Morsch's hit came in the top of the ninth on a 0-2 count with the bases loaded and the game tied at 1-1. It was the lone hit in a lengthy half an inning in which the Tritons sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs as they took advantage of four walks, one hit by pitch, two errors and two stolen bases. UMSL also scored on a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt in that inning.
The Tritons (5-2), who avenged a 22-9 loss to Seton Hill on Sunday, then had to fend off the Griffins (4-3) who got two runs back in the bottom half of the ninth and left the bases loaded to end the game.
Redshirt sophomore
Jason Stuckmeyer worked himself out of that jam, earning his first win in the process in two complete innings of relief work.
Junior
Tom DeCero tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth with a one-out RBI double down the left field line.
Junior
Michael Houchin went four innings in the start, striking out six, walking three and surrendering one unearned run on three hits.
Senior
Cooper Vinz tallied two of UMSL's six hits, while O'Brien drew three walks and scored two runs. Redshirt junior
Michael Bibbs was also walked three times as the Seton Hill pitchers issued 10 walks.
UMSL will play a doubleheader against Grand Valley State tomorrow at 11 a.m. (EST).
