Softball Defeats Holy Family in Monday Split

CLERMONT, FLA. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team bounced back from a 3-0 loss to Minnesota State by recording a 4-2 victory over Holy Family on Monday at the PFX Games.
 
UMSL (9-9) closes out its trip to Florida tomorrow with games against Lynn at 9 a.m. (EST) and Northern State to follow.
 
Game 1: Minnesota Duluth 3, UMSL 0
Records: Minnesota-Duluth (10-3), UMSL (8-9)
The Tritons were limited to two hits in the contest, singles by juniors Lizzy Miller and Madi Sundling.
 
Junior Carly Kingery took the loss, scattering five hits and allowing all three runs, while striking out seven.
 
The Bulldogs scored on a two-run homerun in the second and added an insurance run in the fifth.
 
Game 2: UMSL 4, Holy Family 2
Records: Holy Family (0-4), UMSL (9-9)
The Tritons put two runs on the board in the first inning, scoring on an RBI groundout from junior Chelsea Martinez and a sac fly from senior Jennah Perryman. An error by the Tigers in the third inning made it 3-0 before Holy Family got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the frame.

Miller's RBI single in the fourth drove in sophomore Andee Tiffee for the final score.

UMSL tallied 10 hits, including two from junior Reagan Osborn, who also scored two runs and drew a walk.

Freshman Sapphire Munoz earned the win, going six innings in the start and allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out three. Tiffee retired three straight in the seventh for her second save of the season.
